Concepts, methods and applied transition knowledge
The New Economy knowledge base brings together core concepts, methods and perspectives from the regenerative economy. Articles explain footprint, compliance, circular product design, regenerative strategy, food systems and regional policy in practical terms, with clear links to life-cycle assessment (LCA), social cost-benefit analysis (MKBA), CO2 footprint, carbon sequestration, biobased materials and circular business models.
R-ladder (waste hierarchy)
The R-ladder ranks circular strategies by value retention: first use less and extend product life, then reuse, repair and remanufacture, and only later recycle.
The higher on the ladder, the more material value, energy and product function are retained.
Applied in practice
New Economy uses the R-ladder to prioritise circular opportunities: first Refuse and Reduce (prevent and minimise), then Reuse and Repair (extend), only then Recycle and Recover. This order shapes the design of business cases, quick scans and circular strategies.
