As the second largest mobility solution, zero-emission zones in Gelderland deliver between 152 kton (projection) and 608 kton CO₂-eq per year (ambitious) in 2030. The zones are being introduced in the four largest cities in the province: Apeldoorn, Nijmegen, Ede and Arnhem.
In the projection scenario the zones remain confined to inner-city areas; in the ambitious scenario the surrounding districts are added. The calculation works from the number of kilometres per inhabitant that are cleaned up or avoided: from 143 km in 2025 this rises to 500 km in 2030 in the projection scenario, and from 598 km to 2,093 km in the ambitious one. Zero-emission zones bear mainly on passenger transport, but also on heavy commercial vehicles, and they drive electrification by requiring clean driving in urban areas.
