Landfill gas capture is a rapid route for methane reduction in Gelderland industry. The potential rises from 209 ktonnes CO₂-eq reduction per year in the forecast scenario to 475 ktonnes CO₂-eq per year in the ambitious 2030 scenario.
The strategic value is that methane has a strong climate impact and landfill sites can continue emitting after active use. Capture should therefore be combined with monitoring, prevention of organic waste, recycling and composting. This makes landfill gas capture part of a broader waste and climate strategy.
