The agriculture and land use sector emits 1.13 Mton CO₂-eq per year in the province of Utrecht. Keeping cattle produces the largest emissions: methane from digestion and from the reaction of manure in stables.
What makes this sector unique is its double role: besides being an emission source, agriculture has enormous potential for carbon sequestration and ecosystem restoration. Citizens, farmers and retailers can all contribute directly.
