Utrecht has the cleanest economy in the Netherlands

According to 2018 research by ING bank, the province of Utrecht has the cleanest economy in the country. Utrecht counts 4,845 industrial establishments out of 75,375 nationally, with little heavy industry and an economy oriented mainly towards services.

That profile explains why Utrecht’s industrial emissions are the smallest of the five climate sectors — and why the sector’s climate opportunity lies in what it builds with, rather than in what it burns.
