About this project. Client: Interprovincial Consultation (IPO). Sector: circular economy and government. Year: 2020. Role: chair and secretary of the interprovincial circular-economy steering group, preparing the agenda and maintaining contact with partners.
What is the IPO circular-economy steering group?
The steering group is the partnership in which the twelve Dutch provinces align their policy and projects on circularity. By sharing knowledge, experiences and practical examples, the provinces accelerate the transition and avoid each separately reinventing the wheel. In this way the consultation acts as the engine behind a joint, national approach.
The role of New Economy
New Economy acted as chair and secretary. We prepared the agenda, monitored progress and maintained contact with relevant partners inside and outside government. In this way we connected current developments and opportunities in the field to the activities of the provinces and kept the collaboration focused and results-oriented.
Why provinces work together on the circular economy
The transition to a circular economy calls for scaling up: from individual pilots to structural policy. Provinces have a key role here, because they are close to entrepreneurs, municipalities and knowledge institutions. By joining forces they can improve national and international conditions and spread successful approaches more quickly. See for example our work on circular economy in the province of Flevoland and circular innovation and entrepreneurship in North Holland.
