Gelderland: 338 kton CO₂-eq sequestration potential per year

The annual carbon sequestration potential for Gelderland amounts to 338 kton CO₂-eq, combining natural and technological sequestration. This value is separate from the reduction potential and describes how much carbon can be captured each year rather than avoided.

Alongside emissions reduction, sequestration forms a distinct lever in the province’s climate task. The potential of 338 kton CO₂-eq correlates with natural systems such as soil, forest and land use, complemented by technological routes. Relative to the reduction potential of 12,619 kton CO₂-eq, sequestration is modest, yet it plays a role in addressing the hard-to-avoid residual emissions toward 2030.
