Within Gelderland’s industry, energy efficiency carries an annual reduction potential of 950 kton CO₂-eq towards 2030. On the overall list of fifteen climate opportunities the measure ranks fifth and forms the largest industrial reduction lever.
Unlike the energy opportunities at the top of the list, energy efficiency is mainly about reducing consumption within existing production processes, through waste-heat recovery, process optimisation and electrification. For industry in Gelderland this is the most important lever, while the domain as a whole remains largely untapped: the 2025 progress layer marks industry as the sector where the majority of the potential still remains.
