The smarter transport package of measures can deliver 100 kton (forecast) to 500 kton CO₂-eq per year (ambitious) of reduction in Gelderland in 2030. The package bundles transport flows, saves trips in logistics and deploys Clean Energy Hubs for road transport and inland shipping.
Unlike electrification, smarter transport acts on the demand side: fewer and more efficient journeys instead of cleaner vehicles. A province-wide network of hubs encourages travellers towards the bicycle or public transport, while the employer approach reduces commuting. In addition, the maintenance and management of provincial roads is carried out with 55% CO₂ reduction. Because these measures lower total mobility demand, they reinforce the effect of the other solutions and help prevent traffic growth from cancelling out the gains of electrification.
