Less Waste, More Value

Waste collection in the municipality of Oss was under pressure: rising costs and the targets of less than 96 kg of residual waste per inhabitant per year and 75% waste separation (2020) were at risk of not being met. Together with Florens Slob, New Economy mapped different waste-collection scenarios, with their impact on residual waste, separation rate, service level and costs, as a clear guide for the municipal council.

Scenarios for waste collection in Oss

Together with Florens Slob, New Economy developed a decision document that laid out the different options for collecting household waste. It drew on best practices from other municipalities and data on separated waste processing, making clear which waste-collection system suits Oss best. The scenarios gave the municipal council a clear guide when making a choice.

By collecting more smartly, Oss can control costs, raise the separation rate and recover more valuable raw materials at the same time.
