Timber construction in Gelderland: 0.07 to 0.36 Mton CO₂-eq sequestration potential in 2030

Timber construction — building with wood as the primary structural material — is the only Drawdown innovation in the built environment that falls inside the scope of this sector analysis, because the remaining solutions for the sector are energy-related. Its sequestration potential in Gelderland runs from 0.07 to 0.36 Mton CO₂-eq in 2030, depending on the share of timber in new construction.

The range follows from the scenario chosen: at a 20% timber share the sequestration amounts to some 0.072 Mton, rising to 0.36 Mton at 100%. Because the storage physically takes place on land, the underlying calculation models it under agriculture and land use; for the built environment the figures are therefore indicative.
