Timber construction in Gelderland: 0.02 to 0.1 Mton CO₂-eq reduction potential in 2030

Reduction potential here refers to emissions avoided in production: manufacturing timber building materials releases less carbon dioxide than manufacturing conventional ones. Measured against the new-build task in the province, that avoided emission comes to 0.02 to 0.1 Mton CO₂-eq in 2030 for the Gelderland built environment.

Alongside this reduction, timber construction carries a larger sequestration potential, which sets the solution apart within the climate action plan. For comparison: the Gelderland Climate Plan puts the sector reduction itself at 1.8 to 3.0 Mton CO₂-eq, but counts no sequestration at all. The Drawdown solution of timber construction adds precisely that storage function to the regional scope for action.
