At the OBA Osdorp library, twelve children from Amsterdam Nieuw-West built a bookcase for the neighbourhood following the concept of the Regenerative Modular Cabinet. The name Kast der Kasten was thought up by the children themselves and chosen democratically.
For the OBA Maakplaats, a simple do-it-yourself tool with a handbook was developed, with which a cabinet can be built from natural, biobased and local residual streams. The example shows how open design and accessible tooling bring furniture making within reach of children and neighbourhood residents, and not only of professionals.
