Gelderland Climate Plan: 1.8 to 3.0 Mton CO₂-eq reduction potential for the built environment

The Gelderland Climate Plan puts the reduction potential of the built environment at 1.8 to 3.0 Mton CO₂-eq towards 2030, while assigning that same sector no sequestration potential at all (zero). For this sector the plan places the emphasis entirely on lowering emissions.

The Drawdown analysis in this sector study turns that picture around: a smaller reduction potential of 0.02 to 0.1 Mton stands against a larger carbon sequestration of 0.07 to 0.36 Mton. The difference shows that the two methods draw their system boundaries differently; the reduction figures in the Climate Plan (p. 83) cover more measures than the single Drawdown innovation of timber construction.
