Fairm: Baseline Measurement and Hotspots of Biobased Mycelium Insulation
For sustainable startup Fairm, New Economy mapped the climate impact of producing biobased mycelium insulation. The baseline measurement identified hotspots across purchased materials, energy use and production processes.
Context
Biobased materials can play an important role in low-carbon construction, but their impact depends on production choices, energy sources, transport and end-of-life scenarios. Startups need this insight early, especially when scaling production.
Approach
The analysis translated production data into climate-impact hotspots and practical improvement directions.
New Economy’s role
New Economy carried out the baseline measurement and helped Fairm understand where design and operational choices matter most.
Outputs
- Baseline climate-impact measurement
- Hotspot analysis
- Improvement directions for scale-up
Why it matters
The project supports evidence-based development of biobased insulation materials.
