The electricity sector emits 890 kton CO₂-eq per year in the province of Utrecht. The largest source is the production and distribution of electricity and gas.
The province is implementing its Energy Transition Programme 2020-2025, aimed at reducing energy use and developing renewable energy. Under the province’s own target, energy demand in 2040 must be equal to or smaller than renewable generation.
