Rooftop solar panels can deliver the province of Utrecht an emission reduction of 240 kton CO₂-eq per year by 2030. The calculation uses 532 hectares of roof surface from the regional energy strategy (RES) bids of the Utrecht, Amersfoort and Food Valley energy regions.
The ambitious scenario assumes a 57.6% higher yield per hectare through improved panel efficiency. Rooftop solar grows strongly because it is easy to apply in built-up areas and costs keep falling.
