Industry and business Gelderland: 41% of non-energy greenhouse gas emissions

In Gelderland, the industry and business sector accounts for 41% of non-energy greenhouse gas emissions: the emissions that do not come from burning energy, but from industrial processes, waste treatment and gas leakage. That makes it one of the largest non-energy sources in the province.

Contrary to what the sector name suggests, the bulk of those emissions does not sit with factory processes but with waste treatment: virtually the entire sector emission comes from landfill sites. That makes the sector atypical, because the largest climate gain does not lie in manufacturing itself, but in controlling methane from landfilled waste. The sector analysis therefore calculates which Drawdown solutions most strongly reduce those waste-related emissions.
