The average Dutch person wasted 34.3 kg of food in 2018, good for an annual emission of 131 kg of carbon dioxide per person (Netherlands Nutrition Centre). Nationally, consumer food waste adds up to 2.2 Mton of CO₂ per year.
Between field and fork, 30 to 40% of all food produced worldwide is lost — along with the seed, energy, land, fertiliser, working hours and money it took. Fighting waste is economic and climate gain in one.
