Timber construction is the largest single solution in the entire Utrecht assessment: 1,120 kton CO₂-eq of reduction plus 270 kton of sequestration per year by 2030. The ambitious scenario builds 50% of new homes in timber — 5,000 homes per year.
Laminated timber beams can replace steel, are stronger than cement and store the CO₂ absorbed during growth. Most elements are prefabricated or cut to size, and assembled quickly on site.
