Definition. The Dutch method does not yet count carbon storage in insulation. European standard EN 15804 credits the carbon stored in biobased materials, but the Dutch assessment method — the standard for the environmental calculation of building materials — does not yet include it, so biobased insulation is undervalued environmentally.
Including carbon storage gives a more realistic picture of the climate contribution. New Economy’s circular insulation study for Amsterdam reports this.
