Making a neighbourhood fully gas-free requires collective generation alongside rooftop panels: a solar park, wind turbine, geothermal source or district heating from residual heat. For a model neighbourhood the Transform method calculates around €12 million in societal value against €8.7 million in costs, based on the average of a solar park and a wind turbine — limited space rarely allows both.
Local implementation strengthens employment, and the neighbourhood becomes less dependent on geopolitical shocks. Best linked with rainwater tasks, as the spatial interventions overlap. Source: Transform Zuid-Holland.
