The Carbon Sequestration House for Utrecht orders the sequestration methods through three matrices, which link the methods in turn to societal tasks, to policy and to concrete provincial opportunities.
This layered structure makes visible where the largest gain for Utrecht lies: methods that touch several tasks, existing policy and feasible opportunities at once merit priority. The matrices also show a clear correlation between type of method and reach, in that natural methods are associated with far more tasks than technological ones. As an assessment framework, the house translates national insights into choices that administrators, organisations and landowners in the province can actually make, without losing sight of the order of reduction and sequestration.
