Building materials industry in Gelderland: roughly 0.3 Mton CO₂-eq emissions

The production of building materials in Gelderland accounts for around 0.3 Mton CO₂-eq. These emissions arise during manufacturing and are energy-related, which is why the emissions registry books them under industry, outside the non-energy scope of this sector analysis.

It is on precisely this point that timber construction offers a second advantage: producing timber materials releases less carbon dioxide than producing conventional building materials. A shift towards wood therefore touches not only the carbon storage in buildings, but is also associated with the emissions of the supplying industry, even though that energy-related effect lies outside the reach of this analysis.
