Biobased Design: six biobased materials for frames, panels and covers

For frames, panels and covers, the Regenerative Modular Cabinet offers six biobased material options, each with its own role in the design. Besides Finnish FSC timber for the load-bearing frames, these are SeaWood, City_Wood, Paulownia and Ecor for the panels, and reed and cuttings for the covers.

The materials come from renewable sources and local residual streams. SeaWood and City_Wood refer to marine and urban material streams respectively, Paulownia is a light timber for modular applications, and Ecor is a board material based on paper and fibres. By opening up several streams alongside one another, the system stays built on healthy, demountable raw materials. Source: Biobased Design project dossier, New Economy.
