A higher insulation value does not always mean less CO₂

A higher insulation value does not always mean less CO₂. Cellulose, with a slightly lower insulation value, still holds an advantage of 13 kilograms of CO₂ over glass wool across fifty years, because its production emits almost 2.5 times less. The circular and climate performance of insulation materials is rarely assessed in an integrated way.

Assessment across multiple environmental indicators identifies the best circular insulation materials. This outcome is relevant for construction parties, municipalities and organisations in circular construction. Source: Exploration of circular insulation materials (2021).
