Carpooling and car sharing use existing cars more efficiently: one trip carries more people, and one shared car replaces several private cars. Alongside emission reduction, that delivers cost savings and social cohesion. Fewer cars then need to drive for the same mobility.
Because the same journey is made with fewer vehicles, not only emissions fall but also the costs of parking and car ownership. Sharing concepts work best where supply and demand sit close together, such as at business parks and residential neighbourhoods. For municipalities in Gelderland and the province, encouraging sharing and carpooling is a measure that serves climate, wallet and liveability at once.
