Gelderland agriculture and nature can sequester 0.114 to 0.394 Mton CO₂-eq in 2030

Gelderland agriculture and nature have a calculated sequestration potential of 0.114 to 0.394 Mton CO₂-eq by 2030. This potential mainly sits in soils, trees, landscape elements, afforestation, forest restoration, silvopasture and regenerative land management.

Sequestration is therefore a complementary pathway alongside direct emissions reduction. The source separates reduction from carbon storage: sequestration can build wider system value, but it does not replace cutting emissions. Credible claims require long-term management, monitoring, protection of stored carbon and a clear distinction between reduction and sequestration.
