Nuclear energy only if the price approaches the solar, wind and storage system

Nuclear energy can only have a credible place in the energy mix if its cost approaches that of a system based on solar, wind, flexibility and storage. In the Gelderland analysis, nuclear energy is therefore not an automatic preferred route but a scenario option involving major capital expenditure, safety questions and long lead times.

The ambitious scenario includes 614 kton CO₂-eq of reduction potential from nuclear energy, while the forecast scenario includes none. The decision therefore concerns reduction potential, cost, timing, system security and administrative robustness together. Source: Gelderland Climate Opportunities – Energy, New Economy.
