Smart thermostats can deliver up to 105 kilotonnes of CO₂-eq reduction in Gelderland. The calculated effect increases by 129% between the conservative and ambitious scenarios; under the scenario, 50% of households have a smart thermostat by 2030. The measure reduces unnecessary heat demand by aligning heating more closely with occupancy and comfort.
Actual impact depends on correct installation, understandable settings and everyday use by residents. Smart thermostats therefore work best as part of a wider package that includes insulation, heat pumps, heat networks and energy-conscious behaviour.
