Note. Loose PS beads used as floor insulation can affect nature: the study notes rodents and birds coming into contact with the beads. The environmental scores (ECI and MPG) do not capture that effect.
PS beads also score poorly: 12.0 kg CO₂-eq/m², 0% reuse and, at an ECI of €17.83/m², almost the highest environmental cost of the fifteen materials. LDPE foil scores better on every measure and is the more sustainable floor choice. New Economy’s circular insulation study for Amsterdam reports this.
