During heatwaves, poorly adapted homes reach unliveable temperatures, with health damage as a result. Green roofs, green façades and cool materials keep buildings passively cool, removing the need for polluting, power-hungry air conditioning: lower energy use, less CO₂ and a more liveable indoor climate.
The same roofs also buffer rainwater and support biodiversity. This task too belongs to the shared green-blue package of five climate tasks — together around €2.5 million in societal value against €1.3 million in costs per model neighbourhood. Source: Transform Zuid-Holland.
