Food initiative calculation model: €2 per kilo of rescued food

Every kilo of food that would otherwise be lost counts for €2 in the calculation model. This item, rescued food, values the food an initiative collects from residual streams and still puts to use.

Besides the direct value of the product, this category bears on countering food waste, one of the concepts the project page names explicitly. The model works with the kilos of rescued food per year, which allows initiatives that process large residual streams to show their contribution to less waste in euros. Redistributing surpluses thereby takes a measurable place alongside the social returns. Source: Rekenmodel voedselinitiatief (MKBA Food), New Economy.
