Deep geothermal energy delivers 151 kton CO₂-eq reduction potential by 2030 in the ambitious scenario. The source works with up to 6 locations, averaging 261 TJ per location. This makes geothermal smaller than solar and wind, but relevant as a stable heat source.
Its value mainly sits in the heat transition. Geothermal energy can help supply homes, utility buildings or heat networks with renewable heat, provided the subsurface, permitting, finance and heat demand are organised well. For Gelderland, it is therefore not a stand-alone energy measure, but part of spatial heat planning and infrastructure development.
