Landfill gas capture should be combined with recycling and composting because capture only addresses emissions after organic material has already entered landfill conditions. Prevention and treatment upstream reduce the amount of methane-forming waste in the first place.
For climate strategy, the strongest approach is a hierarchy: prevent organic waste, separate and compost usable streams, recycle materials where possible and capture residual landfill gas that still forms.
