Building automation systems can deliver around 15 kilotonnes of CO₂-eq reduction in Gelderland. Under the scenario, the share of buildings using these systems increases by 8% by 2030. The systems reduce energy loss by aligning heating, cooling, ventilation, lighting and equipment more closely with the actual use of a building.
The measure is especially relevant for offices, schools, healthcare buildings and other larger facilities. Its effect depends on proper commissioning, reliable occupancy data and active energy management. Automation works best in combination with insulation and efficient heating and building-services systems. Source: Gelderland Climate Opportunities, built environment, New Economy.
