Utrecht emits 7.65 Mton CO₂-eq per year across five climate sectors

The province of Utrecht emits 7.65 Mton CO₂-eq per year, spread across the five climate sectors of the Dutch Climate Agreement (reference year 2018). Mobility is the largest sector at 3.16 Mton, followed by the built environment (1.9 Mton), agriculture and land use (1.13 Mton), electricity (0.89 Mton) and industry (0.57 Mton).

The figures come from the national Emissions Registry, supplemented with LULUCF data and the province’s own records. This baseline is the starting point of the Preliminary Climate Solutions Assessment: knowing where emissions arise makes it possible to target the climate solutions that deliver most.
