A neighbourhood agenda only takes hold when the collected perspectives truly represent the neighbourhood. Good representation goes beyond residents alone: schools, a community police officer or a local employer belong at the table too. The invitation must also fit residents’ perception, language, culture, timing and accessibility — including for those who do not speak Dutch, are visually or hearing impaired, or have a physical disability.
Co-creation then puts residents centre stage as experts on their own neighbourhood: it stimulates coalition-building, gives ownership of the tasks and builds trust.
