Urban biodiversity is essential for a healthy ecosystem: flowers, shrubs and varied greenery give insects and animals food and shelter. Greater species richness makes neighbourhood green less vulnerable to disease and extreme weather, improves air and water quality and lifts residents’ wellbeing — lively greenery also raises property values. Worm and insect hotels additionally reduce organic waste streams.
