20% of Dutch landfill capacity is in Gelderland

Gelderland holds around one fifth of Dutch landfill capacity. That gives the province a larger role in managing legacy waste, land use and long-term environmental risk than its population share alone would suggest.

For climate and circularity policy, this means landfill capacity is not only a waste statistic. It points to choices about prevention, material recovery, soil use and the transition from disposal to higher-value circular strategies.
