Stone wool is the cheapest cavity insulation but has the highest environmental cost

Definition. Stone wool is the cheapest cavity insulation but has the highest environmental cost. At €4/m² it is the cheapest cavity option, but its Environmental Cost Indicator (€2.07/m²), building performance (€0.026/m² per year) and CO₂ emissions (6.0 kg/m²) are the highest of the cavity materials. Cheap is not sustainable here.

Cellulose costs more but scores far better environmentally. New Economy’s circular insulation study for Amsterdam reports this.
