PIR with an aluminium layer insulates more strongly but stays barely circular

Note. On the market, PIR is often sold with an aluminium layer, which raises its insulation value. That does not make it circular: pure PIR emits 18.0 kg CO₂-eq/m² — the second highest of the fifteen materials — and is only 1% reusable in practice, against the 7% the NIBE database lists.

A higher insulation value therefore says little about environmental impact or circularity. New Economy’s circular insulation study for Amsterdam reports this.
