Note. On the market, PIR is often sold with an aluminium layer, which raises its insulation value. That does not make it circular: pure PIR emits 18.0 kg CO₂-eq/m² — the second highest of the fifteen materials — and is only 1% reusable in practice, against the 7% the NIBE database lists.
A higher insulation value therefore says little about environmental impact or circularity. New Economy’s circular insulation study for Amsterdam reports this.
