MKBA food initiatives Amsterdam-Noord: 32 initiatives worth roughly €15 million in societal value a year

The combined societal value of thirty-two food initiatives in Amsterdam-Noord comes to roughly €15 million a year. That figure follows from the social cost-benefit analysis (MKBA) that New Economy compiled in November 2025 on behalf of the municipality of Amsterdam, and forms the arithmetic basis beneath the public food initiative calculation model.

The amount adds up a range of benefits, from saved food costs and rescued produce to health gains and avoided societal support. The generic calculation model makes the same methodology available for a single initiative on its own, without the weightings and totals for the whole district, so that one organisation can make its own contribution to that value visible.
