Definition. Aerogel is the thinnest insulation for tight spaces. For roof or cavity spaces thinner than 30 mm, aerogel is the only material that still saves CO₂ emissions, thanks to its very high insulation value per millimetre. At €260/m², however, it is too expensive for large-scale use.
Most homes have enough space for a cheaper, more sustainable material. New Economy’s circular insulation study for Amsterdam reports this.
