One package, ten times the value

A package of five cost-effective interventions costs about €1.13 million per year and generates about €11.5 million in social value. The MKBA by New Economy bundles the strongest measures into one package. The roughly tenfold return shows the case for funding them together. Without a calculation, the social value of informal food initiatives stays invisible, while the cost of inaction keeps rising.

A social cost-benefit analysis values the network’s benefits against public spending and avoidable social costs. This is relevant for municipalities, city districts and organisations working on food security, poverty and public health.
