Definition. Recycled cotton, also called metisse, is circular roof insulation with low CO₂. Made from recycled textiles, it has — together with flax board — one of the lowest emissions of the roof materials at 3.0 kg CO₂-eq/m², with an Environmental Cost Indicator of €1.18/m². Its price is higher, at €52.50/m².
As reused textile, metisse turns a waste stream into a building material. New Economy’s circular insulation study for Amsterdam reports this.
