Steward ownership is a form of ownership in which control rests with those who serve the purpose of the enterprise, and in which profit cannot be freely distributed to outside shareholders. Within Co-Operate the model holds purpose, control and asset management together.
For circular buildings and shared neighbourhood facilities this means steering on long-term value rather than on quick resale value. Whoever manages the building has an interest in components retaining their worth. Maintenance, reuse and life extension become the logical choice within the ownership structure, instead of a cost that argues against the return.
