Biobased construction works three ways: it can reduce emissions from conventional materials, store biogenic carbon in buildings and create new demand for regenerative or fibre-based crops. That makes it relevant for both the built environment and agriculture.
The Gelderland built-environment analysis uses this connection to show that construction policy is also material policy. Timber and other biobased materials should therefore be judged on climate effect, sourcing, lifespan and reuse. The strongest impact appears when building demand is connected to reliable regional chains and circular design.
