The Southern Randstad faces a major housing challenge. 230,000 homes need to be built by 2040. A spatial and economic model has been developed through an exploratory study that helps inform strategic planning for future production capacity in the region, enabling circular and industrial symbiosis in the form of a Circular Resource Cluster (CGC).

The Amsterdam Metropolitan Area offers significant potential for new circular revenue models and the valorization of secondary raw materials: approximately €688 million annually. This research and associated chain-wide calculation models for promising substreams have visualized this potential and translated it into concrete business cases.

The Amsterdam Metropolitan Area holds a great deal of potential value, and a significant amount becomes available annually: approximately €144 million in e-waste. For five material streams that represent significant potential financial value and potential reduction in environmental impact, concrete business cases for collection, recycling, and reuse have been explored in collaboration with the business community.
