The Netherlands is busy innovating, creating, and realizing wonderful new initiatives, programs, and projects that inspire us all to shape a new economy. But many companies also have a order A portfolio full of traditional sales orders. As a result, they don't sense the urgency of the new economy or see the opportunities, even though this transition is being accelerated on all sides and the possibilities are endless.

But what is this new economy?
Concepts like sustainability, circularity, biobased, social, fair trade, and holistic revenue models set the tone for pioneers. The responsibility of every link in the chain is being rethought: the creator of a product or service must have considered the potential consequences of a choice for the rest of the chain of suppliers and customers, with the ultimate goal of being a valuable company in a system where everyone can learn, mobilize, and consume in a healthy living environment. A system where consumers have their own and endless choices from propositions, where value optimization for nature and people is the starting point: generative services and products.

What?!
What if I start with a small step that suits me? For everyone who is curious about the opportunities of the new economy, New Economy has launched a home page Where you can find inspiration and motivation. This inspiration can help prepare your portfolios for the new economy. There are countless examples of both large and small companies that are approaching things slightly differently and, in our opinion, are already part of the new economy.

Why?
From the New Economy perspective, we strive for an economy with fewer interdependencies, one that is less polluting and wasteful, but where positive impact is created together. An economy that grows through increased collective well-being and ecological stability.

The example initiatives are categorized into nine types of activities. These activities align with, among other things, the circularity ladder (PBL, 2019), although this portal focuses not only on the circular economy and closing loops, but also on biodiversity, nature restoration, and social enterprises. The companies operate as an ecosystem where processes are not linear, but flow into each other as a network. The more diverse companies and activities are added, the stronger and more resilient this ecosystem will be. We are eager to contribute to this!

These nine activities are made possible by the Enablers These include knowledge institutions, financial institutions, certification bodies, databases, and consultancies. Numerous obstacles hinder the transition to circularity: a lack of knowledge and funding, perverse market incentives, inflexible legislation, and a lack of visibility of potential solutions. The Enablers ensure that concrete solutions are embedded in institutions, further removing barriers to the transition and enabling multiple parties to take the path. The current list of activities and enablers is growing; fortunately, what's currently in place is only a fraction of what already exists. These organizations have particularly caught our attention, but we hope that many more will join. Initiatives focused on the new economy can apply for the home page by sending an email to Boi.
